Hungarian/rhapsody
I just discovered I know nothing about Hungary, how embarassing.
We've just had a scorching 43C today. I put dishes of water all round the yard for the birds to cool down in. We really are at opposition aren't we?

Happy New Year to you too Johnny. I hope all is well with you and your family.
Looks like we are lucky to be back online. Thanks to the powers that be.
No we didn't get the storms, they were further to the west. Didn't have Blue Peter on TV either, but I'd bet it's got something to do with the naval flag for leaving port.

It's going to be minus 20 celcius for the low this weekend. Brass monkeys and all that!

Good grief minus 20. We had plus 40 degrees celsius on the weekend. That's a huge gap. I don't know how people in Canada manage to get around in that weather. Driving must be hell. I hope your family copes with it alright.

It's like anything else, you get used to it! To be honest, I'm not sure I could handle +40C for most of the summer. One thing about Canada....you do get all 4 seasons.
I live on the north side of Lake Ontario, but the communities on the south side of the lake (the lee of the lake) in upstate New York are having a hell of time with snow squalls. the wind comes from the north, picks up moisture in the "warmer" waters of Lake Ontario and then dumps the moisture as snow. One town has had 11 feet (yes, feet!) in the last 7 days:

Wow I can't imagine how anyone copes with that much snow. We don't usually get too many 40C days in a row, so it's not too bad. I expect you'll be coming into spring soon. I love the first springish sort of day you get. It has a wonderful feeling about it, it lifts the spirits and makes you feel good all over. Chuckle, but maybe that's just me.
